Carvers Bakery Café located downtown behind Cooper Creek Square - Winter Park, Colorado - (970) 726-8202

Carvers Bakery has been around for over 30 years as a restaurant with parts of the building being nearly 100 years old. The bakery started out at the Sterling Silber Bakery by two sisters during the 70’s when the main priority was to make enough money to pay for a good skiing habit.

Jim and Bill Carver, two brothers from a Wisconsin baking family took over a few years later and expanded the operation to include full service bakery, wedding cakes, some catering, and breakfast and lunch. Jim and Bill then moved to Durango Colorado to pursue their dream of brewing beer and have become wildly successful in that community. Peter and Stephanie Ralph purchased from Jim and Bill and took the bakery from strength to strength, staying in the business for 7 years before pursuing their dream of entering the horse world. Simon and Candy who are the current owners, became involved with the bakery after working a winter season while passing through Winter Park on a working vacation from New Zealand.

Simon is a Cordon Blue trained chef and Biologist (???....cooking is more fun). Candy was running her first restaurant at 17 years of age and has since published a cookbook, been on radio cooking shows, taught cooking classes, and continues to experiment with new ideas. 15 years later, here we are, still having fun and feeding the masses. Probably the most significant event for us came in July 1991 when a fire caused by an incorrectly installed oven chimney caused major damage. What seemed a tragedy turned into opportunity and allowed us to renovate Carvers into a light, airy, purpose built restaurant without sacrificing the old world charm it previously had.
